Gas Prices Expected to Remain Low
The gas prices are expected to remain a little down till July as per AAA Carolinas. The gas prices are low from the past month and will continue till the holiday season kicks off i.e. July 4.
As per AAA Carolinas officials the financial crisis in the European continent and increase in the crude oil inventories resulted in lower average gallon price for unleaded gas. The price went from $2.84 last month to $2.67. Locally the gas prices have been even lower at $2.40 in Granite Falls and $2.60in Lenoir.
The price slump is visible since May 7 when the economic crisis in Europe began. Oil Futures are sold in Euros which is the currency for majority of European countries including Greece. But with the financial crisis the value of Euro fell against other currencies including the dollar.
As a result the speculations in oil futures were not attractive enough because of which gas prices decreased.
The gas prices are currently low which is good news as there is still high unemployment rate and the struggle with the cash still exists. But when compared to the past year the gas prices are higher by 20 cents per gallon. For now its time to leave the worries of gas price hikes, people can expect some hike after July4 when the holiday season begins.
The oil spill at a British Petroleum rig in Gulf of Mexico will not force consumers to pay more for gas as the rig was a developmental well and did not contain refined gasoline. If it would have had refined gas then there would have been a price rise and consumers would have been made to pay a bit high price.
The major concern for now is the beginning of the hurricane season which has started from June. Hurricanes have previously affected gas pipelines which resulted in run out of fuel for a long time.

The Holland America Line has been selected as the 2010 Marine Environmental Business of the year. It got the recognition for the contribution it made towards the environment by reducing carbon footprint at the sea and in port by Port of Seattle and the Seattle Propeller Club.
The company owes its achievement to its staff’s hard work for constantly working towards the betterment of the company.
The port praised the company’s constant energetic efforts for using innovative and efficient energy management strategies and responsible management of wastewater discharges.
The president and chief executive officer of the company was delighted and summed up his happiness by saying, "we are honored to receive this award and thank the Port of Seattle for recognizing our efforts in environmental stewardship". They were happy with the fact that there company is amongst the few ones who think about the environment factor while carrying on their business.
Achieving all this was not an easy task for Holland America Line, in the past three years the company gave its ships a task to use just 98% of the fuel budget and the result was the company actually used 96% of the estimated budget. They also used a combination of fuel conservation and shore power usage. Apart from these the other strategies they used were fuel reduction strategies like selecting itineraries that allow optimum vessel speed between port calls to minimize fuel use and maintaining equipment according to specifications.
Holland America Line's fleet of 14 ships currently offers nearly 500 cruises to 320 ports in more than 100 countries and territories. Practically their fleets move in every continent of the world.
